Its so humid and hot. Its so pleasant at winter time.
We are in Thrivandrum now.
We are met by very funny minibus – multi color lamps and painted eyes.
Kovalam consist of three main beaches – Samudra, Hawa and Lighthouse.
We will live not far away from Samudra. Opposite the mysterious backwater.

Our Golden Turtel homestay is in the local zone. Here there are no foreigners. Tiny road divide us from the small lawn and backwater. Red snake follow her pass in the water. Birds move around. Backwater here  is the very end of river. Then its a strip of sand with palm trees and an ocean.

Our Samudra beach is the quiets place. In the morning dozens of fisherman pull out nets with fish. This is hard long job. At the end they receive not more then 20 kilos of small silver fish. White egret  also know about this fish. Group of them tried to steal some of them.

We take morning coffee with backwater view. White breast kingfisher is local gem. He seat on the branch waiting for his pray. Brown bittern freeze in the water. Birdsnake ducked 10 meters ahead. Fishermen sing songs. This place is a national geographic for us.

This morning we are swim in 29 C water of ocean. Its clean. Sandy beaches and no corals here. Only rare and small fishes.

We visited famous Lighthouse and Hawe beaches. I am stunned with horror. Its ant-house of people. Its so noisy and unpleasant here! Of course, hundreds of shops, restaurants and hotels. I saw rooms for 3-5 usd per night. But i dont want stay  next hour here! I would like escape to my backwater with my kingfisher and fisherman!

In backwater there are floating islands. They are made from the rests of coconuts. People made correct round island. Then it will be in the water next 6 month. First just floating, then some mud from the bottom will be added, grass will grow on the mud, birds will hunting from this island. And island will half sunk. After half of year all this will be transported to small old fabric just 500 m from us. And simple machine will divide earth and mud from coconut threat. Then the rope or rag will be done. Long way.

In the morning we drink coffee and eat some fruits and cheese.

Fruits and cheese we bought in supermarket. We get there by tuktuk.
India produce coffee only in two stats. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Its grow in shadow zones  between 1000-1500 m. But locals do not drink it. Its not traditional. 85% of coffee is exported. But its only 4% of world coffee production.
So. Coffee here is mild and strange.

But food is excellent! On our Samudra beach its a chain of restaurants with sea food.  Waves crashed near and  drops cover the tables. We sit on the stone protective wall and observe sunset. Tiger prawns and calamary are coming. Fresh juices are sweet with local sun. Incredible!

Day after day we are watching backwater, swim in warm ocwan and eat excellent food.
