Day 9. 

 

Again we waked up till all camp slept. 

And return to Krafla volcano. His additional crater Viti has blue-green lake inside. It’s also possible make long and middle distance trekking around. We just pass near riolite mountains, observe lava fields and fumaroles. It’s became really hot! I think it was more then 30 C!

 

And after this we jump into Blue Lagune!  At midday it’s not a lot of people here. The water is milky- blue and warm. View on volcanoes and lake. There are to thermal pools in Lagune. I don’t know why but all people stay in first. And we just get into second one and had been here completely alone and invisible for other people. 

 

After such relaxing we forgot dreams about Black volcano crater Hvervell. It was too hot!

 

We turned to Grjotagja. It’s lava babble with clear water inside. But the temperature is more then 45 C. It’s impossible swim here. 

In famous place Dimmuborgir we get to Lava Church. I don’t know, is it the best place in Iceland. Just the place. I think better to visit conical volcanoes on the lake. But I didn’t know about them in that time. 

 

We again tried to catch fish in the lake by the way to Akyreyri. Nothing, as usual. 

 

Godafoss – charming waterfall near the road. But we were feed up by waterfalls. 

 

Camping in Akyreyri made us mad – no places at all!!! Full of people!!! And we start to find another place for overnight. Inside fjord there is a road and here are two campsites. Just 10-13 km from city. I cannot say that one of them was empty. But it was more space. There… And the view on Sulur volcano. Point of our tomorrow trekking. 

 

Day 10. 

 

We are lucky! Good sunny day! 

 

We found the road from Akyreyri to Sulur volcano. It has the same name. And parking place at the end of road with big information board. 

 

It was mentioned that 5 km trek. No. This is wrong. After we cross the wooden ladder we start slowly ascent. It’s 900m up to the top of Sulur 1.  And it’s 8,5 km from start to Sulur2.  Most strenuous way before the summit. And the view from summit is extraordinary beautiful! Especially to Sulur 2! There are books if registration in iron boxes on both tops. It’s possible go farther but may be to make full circle it’s need two or more days and full equipment. 

There are plenty of spring water by the way. 

We were happy on the top!

In such a nice day a lot of locals and tourists made ascent. I calculated few days before in book group of 50 persons!

When we descent people start to ascent. But as for me, it was too hit now. 

 

In   Akyreyri we took delicious dinner in Strikid restaurant. It has terraces the top with view on fjord and Sulur . 

 

And now we follow next destination – Grettislog. It’s abandon place on the edge of peninsula with hot pools near fjord. We hope to make here ocean fishing also.  The way here is more or less good. And it’s possible to see old turf village by the way. 

 

We arrived at evening time. It was beautiful sun light. And cold. But hot tubes were 39 and 41C! There were kitchen, toilet and small café shop. With homemade cakes))

 

We stayed in tubes  for long time. Perfect!

And ducked to tents. 

 

 

Day 11.  

 

Morning brought us rain. 

We booked fishing for 9-30 am. 20 Euros per person. 

 

Small fishing boat was in time. Fishing least less then one hour. During this period we catch silver cod (4,5 kg), gold cod (5,5 kg) and numerous small cods. Completely enough for nice life during two days))

 

To make ourselves warmer we again dived into hot pool. 

 

Today we need to get into center of country by road 35. This is road from north to south. 

 We think about Hveravellir. Here is thermal fields and camp area. But when we arrived here the place was not interesting and we follow to Kerlingarfjoll 

 

Kerlingarfjoll is hub number 2 in Iceland. Hub number 1 is Landmannalaugar. 

From Kerlingarfjoll possible make numerous treks. And stay in lodge or in camping. 

 

We get here as usual at evening. Lodging was fully booked but in camping were plenty of space. 

 

It was also hot tub very very  natural!  In gorge, in river, between riolite mountains!! 

 

But in evening time there were a lot of people. And pool is not really big – for 3-4 friendly persons. 

 

We decided go there early in the morning. According to our experience camp will wake up not earlier then at 8am. 

 

 

Day 12.  

 

Hot pool with natural fountain at 6-30  in the morning – this is a very special thing!

 

We stayed there during 40 min. Nobody!

 

Tourists waked up and did what they want to do – springs, trekking or return to road 35.

 

And we also return to road 35. There were two main attractions by the way – Gulfoss and Geysir. 

 

Crowds of people! No place for parking! 

 

Gulfoss is beautiful but… 

 

We saw before more another waterfalls…

 

But Geysir is worth to watch it! Every 5-7 minutes huge blue bulb appears in hot pool and explode in fountain higher then 20 meters!

 

And in the road 35 we found  volcano Kerid!  This volcano is private. It was the only place, where we paid for entrance. 2 Euros per person.  Crater of volcano is full of pure blue water. We made tour around on the edge and also descended into crater. 

 

It was our last night in Iceland and we want to stay somewhere in guesthouse. To repack our staff. 

All hotels and guest houses around were booked.  Women on reception help us with hotel Hlith. In Google this hotel has wrong position. It’s situated in another place. 

 

Hotel Hlith was clean, small, with hot bath outdoor and abnormally  expensive.  But with hot converter))

 

 

Day 13. 

 

Small tour around Reykjavik. Also in Reykjavik. 

 

And biggest geothermal field in Gunnavert (?). 

 

And our flight home. That’s all. 

 

We paid for camping 20-40 Euros for 4 people. 

We bought food on Bonus and prices are reasonable. 

. Gasoline is less then 2 Euros per liter. 

We made more then 90 km by foot. 

Most expensive thing was lodging in Ion Hotel. 

Car 4 WD  Santa Fe was 100 Euros per day.
